Pet Peeve #8 - Tennessee State Government

There seems to be some confusion among the lawmakers of the State of Tennessee.  I'm not sure how the myth got start, or how long ago this happened, but somewhere along the line the legislators of this state have gotten the impression that the citizens and taxpayers work for them and not the other way around.  They seem to have gotten some misinformation that told them that they could do whatever it is that they want to do, regardless of the fact that the people who hired them don't want it done.

Here is the bottom line guys, we hired you and we don't want a state income tax or any other tax increase.  We didn't hire you to make decisions that are against what we want, we hired you to implement what WE decided we want.  You don't decide what happens, WE DECIDE WHAT HAPPENS.  The populace of this state has made it abundantly clear that a state income tax or any other tax increase simply to fund your bloated, inefficient methods of doing business is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Here is what is going to happen:  You are going to manage to live within a reasonable budget, you are not going to implement any additional taxes, and you are going to listen to what we tell you we want.  We hired you by voting for you, and we can fire you if we decide to.  Keep that little fact in mind.  I don't know where the absurd idea that you could run rampant and do whatever you wanted to do came from, but the bottom line is that you have a boss.  That boss is us, the taxpayers of Tennessee, and that boss has told you what to do.  If you don't like it you can go find another job.  This is a very simple concept, and it is the one that the vast majority of us manage to live with every day.

This Pet Peeve was short and sweet because the concept is so simple.  I don't know why some politicians have such a difficult time understanding simple concepts.
