Mid-South Live Steamers

Did you have an electric train when you were a kid?  I did.  I can still remember the smell of those little pellets I put in the smoke stack to generate smoke and I Can still remember sitting there for hours watching it go around and around and around that little track.  I eventually outgrew it though, and to this day I really don't know what happened to that train set.  All I remember is that I really enjoyed it.

These guys seem to have not outgrown their love of trains.  They are a bit larger and a bit more impressive than the little Lionel set I had as a kid.

According to their Web Site the Mid-South Live Steamers have four meets each year.  The summer meet was this weekend so I decided to stop by and see what was going on.  They have a really nice permanent facility at the Maury County Park in Columbia, Tennessee.  It includes 14,000 feet of track and the facilities necessary for loading and unloading the trains.

I was hoping to see some real "Steamers" but there was only one small one, most of them were diesel-electric.  I'll check back again in the fall, they aren't going anywhere and I'll be back!
