SHELL OIL COMPANY -- June 16, 1999
For some reason, the middle Tennessee area has been plagued with violent thunderstorms and tornados for the past couple of years. This is not normal for this part of the country, and many people have suffered severe damage from the storms.
This week I received a letter from Shell Oil Company. The letter stated that they were concerned about the damage that people in this area had received, and hoped that I had not received any damage myself. This, in and of itself, was quite unusual for a major corporation, however the letter then went on to say that if additional time was needed to pay my credit card bill that I could call them and they would extend the due date.
Luckily, we had received no damage and I always keep my credit cards paid off, however I felt that it was unusually decent of them to make the offer. In this day and time, where corporate greed is the norm and "Bleed The Suckers Dry" the bylaw by which so many corporations exist, it was quite refreshing to find out that there was at least one corporation left who even bothered to think about us. I might also add that out of all the corporations and companies that I do business with, both personally and professionally, Shell Oil Company was the ONLY one that bothered to make this offer. To them, my thanks; it will be remembered. To all the rest, I'll keep your lack of concern for our well-being in mind as well.
